Hura Collective is a Prague-based artistic group at the forefront of the Czech independent scene, operating a gallery and screenprinting workshop known as the Hygienic Station. Representing the collective in Brooklyn, Hza Bažant and Leona Bažant Telínová (Telona) present their latest collaborative and individual cycles, EDEN and On the Road. Their work sits at the intersection of printmaking, scenography, and alternative photography, rooted in the rich cultural history of the heart of Europe.
Hza Bažant (Jan Bažant, Ph.D.) is a multi-disciplinary artist, researcher, and Associate Professor at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. His practice spans scenography, puppetry, and graphic novels, with a core focus on the narrative power of printmaking. A founding member of the Hura Collective, Bažant’s work has been exhibited internationally in cities including Tokyo, Paris, Berlin, and Taipei. His academic and artistic contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship in 2025. His prints often reflect his background in theater, utilizing bold, dramatic compositions that bridge the gap between performance and the printed page.
Leona Bažant Telínová (Telona) is a photographer and fine art printer whose work explores the tactile possibilities of the photographic image. Specializing in cyanotype and alternative photographic processes, she often integrates letterpress and screenprinting to create complex, multi-layered works. Her practice is centered on the production of artist books, zines, and limited-edition portfolios that challenge the boundaries between photography and graphic art. An expert in her craft, Telona also leads workshops on alternative techniques, fostering a contemporary revival of historical printing processes.
