Founded in 2001, David Krut Projects (DKP), New York serves as the vital bridge between the David Krut Workshop in Johannesburg and American audiences. This connection grew from David Krutβs 1981 London collaborations and his pivotal 1998 Chicago exhibition of William Kentridgeβs editions. Over the decades, DKP has facilitated essential knowledge transfer by inviting Master Printers like Phil Sanders and Randy Hemminghaus to Johannesburg, while introducing icons such as Kentridge, El Anatsui, Aida Muluneh, and Santu Mofokeng to the U.S.
Under the leadership of AmΓ© Bellβcurator of the 2022 South African Pavilion at the Venice BiennaleβDKP continues to champion emerging talent. The workshopβs core strength lies in its collaborative expertise, led by printers Kim-Lee Loggenberg-Tim, Sbongiseni Khulu, Roxy Kaczmarek, and Jesse Shepstone, who bring nearly 40 years of collective experience. This legacy of mentorship is further evidenced by Jillian Ross, who recently established her own workshop in Canada after 17 years with DKP.
Enhancing its role as a site of active making, the New York artspace now houses a printing press provided by Phil Sanders. This addition allows visitors to experience live collaborations with Sanders and other visiting printers, bringing the technical spirit of the Johannesburg workshop directly to Chelsea.
