Residency Unlimited (RU) supports the creative process of local, US based and international artists and curators at all stages of their career through its unique, customized residencies and year-round public programs that use New York as the site of exchange.

For CONDUCTOR 2026: Art Fair of the Global Majority, RU presents chairs, lamps and drawings created at the occasion of the 2025 Dialog by Design art & design workshops led by local RU resident artists Maya McGlynn and Ross Myren from β€œScatter Practice". Under the hands-on mentorship of McGlynn and Myren, workshop participantsβ€”new New Yorkers from West Africa and Iranβ€”explored the process of making as a reflection of their experience and identity in NYC. They learned how to work across 2D representation and 3D fabrication techniques from paper making with materials foraged at GrowNYC Teaching Garden on Governors Island, to building chairs and lamps with offcuts of reclaimed/sustainably harvested wood donated by Brooklyn-based workshop & millworks, Tri-Lox. Workshops took place at RU’s headquarters in Carroll Gardens and on Governors Island at the RU House. The design objects on display at CONDUCTOR 2026 are intended as prototypes for future editions. The Dialog by Design workshop series will continue in 2026, expanding mentorship and participation opportunities across vulnerable communities in NYC.

McGlynn and Myren are part-time faculty and alumni at Parsons School of Design, where they co-lead the undergraduate Design/Build project. As founders of the design studio Scatter Practice, they specialize in creating sustainable, community-focused installations, including the annual NYC DOT "Street Seats" project. McGlynn and Myren also work internationally as dedicated model-makers for Hauser & Wirth and a range of NYC based architects.
