Join us on Wednesday, March 20 at 6:00pm for a screening of the documentary The Clash followed by a panel discussion featuring Benjamin Heim Shepard, director of The Clash, Naomi Schiller, co-editor of the Disruptive Engagement handbook, and members of Voice of Gowanus. The panel will explore how local activism and environmental issues impact our Gowanus community.

The Clash

Directed by Gowanus resident and City University of New York (CUNY) professor Benjamin Heim Shepard, The Clash is a documentary chronicling the past 20 years of grassroots movements in New York City. A compelling record of public space activism, the film looks at contests over green space, policing, transportation, and sustainability, from Occupy Wall Street to Black Lives Matter.

Disruptive Engagement: An Organizer’s Guide to Building Community Power for Justice in Land Use and Housing in New York City

Featuring Voice of Gowanus, the Disruptive Engagement handbook is a special project of the CUNY Graduate Center that brings together local activists from across NYC to share actionable knowledge on how to organize and deploy community vision. Co-edited by Naomi Schiller & Vanessa Thill.
