As we conclude our partnership with Ace Hotel New York’s Artists in Residence Program, PHA Patrons and supporters are invited to the VIP Patron & Press Preview of Pacifico Silano’s Elegy to The Void.

Thursday, June 26
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
VIP PATRON & PRESS PREVIEW
Ace Hotel New York

This preview is open to all PHA Patrons.
Guests are invited to stay for the Public Opening Event to follow (7:00 PM – 9:00 PM).

Rephotographing sections of the magazines, Pacifico Silano assembles his new images into a range of seductive installations, which often reference the materiality of the publications themselves—honing in on stapled centerfolds, torn sheets, or the faded color palette of printed pages weathered through time. Bringing contrasting details to the fore, from the familiar visual signifiers of an archetypal masculinity, to more romantic glimpses of an overlooked tenderness, Silano points to the tensions that underlie his source material; between harshness and softness, between joy and melancholy, between the liberation of gay communities and their enduring adherence to wider social norms. Elegy to the Void will be open to the public at Ace Hotel New York through August 2025.

Pacifico Silano explores print culture, image circulation and LGBT+ identity by re-photographing gay pornographic magazines of the ’70s and ’80s — an era connecting the progressive legacy of the sexual revolution with the advent of the HIV/AIDS crisis. He assembles these images into a range of installations that point to the tensions underlying the source material.

This event is part of the PHA Patrons  program, which offers engaging experiences from studio visits, artist talks, receptions and dinners, to VIP tours. Through these quarterly events, Patrons have meaningful interaction with many of our collaborating creatives while providing crucial support for PHA’s mission
