About the exhibition:
Meant to Hold features a dynamic showcase of paintings and sculptures by nine emerging artists from the Brooklyn College MFA class of 2024. This exhibition represents the culmination of two years of intensive study and is hosted, once again, at Powerhouse Arts. Notably, over half of the participating artists will be making their New York debut with this exhibition and all of them will premiere new works made over the course of the MFA program.
The artists in Meant to Hold are prompted to consider what they personally hold onto, or let go of, be it memories, experience, structure, or aspirations for an optimistic future. Through their work, they delve into the nature of connection and containment, and on the transitional condition of life. These artworks encapsulate both tangible and intangible elements of their maturing practices and reveal subtle yet profound connections among the cohort.
