information

Artistic freedom must be championed at all costs in our ever-shifting sociopolitical reality. The notion of freedom is fundamental to the American condition, and has always been a heavily loaded concept vis-à-vis freedom of speech, freedom of religion and other founding principals.  On the eve of this nation’s 250th birthday, this exhibition examines works that exemplify, question or critique freedom in all of its many forms.

Join us for a special collaborative exhibition presented by Powerhouse Arts and AANYAA, curated by PHA President Eric Shiner.

On View: November 13 – December 11, 2025
Opening Reception: November 18, 6:30–8:30 PM
Location: Powerhouse Arts, 322 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215

The Alumni Association of the New York Academy of Art (AANYAA) is a volunteer-led organization that works to support and enrich the alumni community of the New York Academy of Art. The AANYAA promotes the work, news, and events of Academy alumni, coordinates community activities, and provides a forum in which to exchange ideas.

Powerhouse Arts is located at 322 3rd Avenue Brooklyn, NY 11215. There is no vehicle parking available on site. Get detailed directions here.

A selection of light bites and beverages will be available for purchase, featuring local food vendors and craft beverages. A full bar serves beer, wine, and signature cocktails. Dietary accommodations including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options are available.

We're committed to making art accessible to everyone. The venue offers wheelchair access, ASL interpreters for performances (with 48-hour advance notice), gender-neutral restrooms, and a quiet room for sensory breaks. Service animals are welcome. Contact us at accessibility@powerhousearts.org for specific accommodation requests.
