Description

Learn to assemble, alter, and refine multi-part ceramics while pushing scale and technique with instructor Joël Brodovsky-Adams.

An intermediate to advanced ceramics workshop explores composite construction techniques using the wheel as a primary tool. Over four days, participants will prepare shrink slabs, throw and alter components, and learn strategies for assembling complex forms. Instruction will cover wheel-throwing, hand-building, and refinement techniques, with demos ranging from shrink slabs and altering wet pieces to assembling leather-hard components and adding surface details. The focus is on skill-building and encouraging experimentation with forms that can later be refined, fired, or even epoxied together. Whether envisioning functional furniture, sculptural objects, or playful hybrids, participants will gain hands-on experience in building larger works from multiple wheel-thrown parts, expanding the possibilities of clay beyond the wheel.

Clay and select tools (including a rib, rasp, and scoring tool) are included in the course. Participants are responsible for bringing any additional tools they wish to use. Firing is available at an additional cost.

Open studio access is available by sign-up and only during staffed hours: weekdays from 9:00 AM–7:30 PM and weekends from 10:00 AM–5:30 PM.

Disclaimer: Registration for this workshop is non-refundable. No refunds, credits, or make-up sessions will be provided for cancellations or missed classes.
