Description

This 8 week class will introduce students to a variety of printmaking processes. We will explore monotype,collograph, and relief.

Emphasis will be on developing skills both on and off the press, from creating plates, to inking and editioning, becoming a responsible member in a community studio will be emphasized. Time will be given to develop our own voice as well as reflecting on our classmates' work. Considering printmaking from many cultures and times will be our source for inspiration, context and meaning.

Class will meet Fridays from 2:30-5:30pm , March 13th to April 24thIn addition to in class time, 24 hours of open studio time are included (3 hours per week) outside of class for non-members; additional hours may be purchased as needed. To arrange your out of class studio time please email mgc@powerhousearts.org. Join as a member for unlimited open studio time, and a 25% discount toward classes.

Instructor

Phyllis Trout

Phyllis Trout is an artist/printmaker living in Brooklyn. She has taught at New School/Parsons, Friends Seminary, Brooklyn Public Library and Brooklyn museum.Her work has been exhibited widely both internationally and nationally. She has received a McDowell fellowship and an American Turkish Society, Travel and Research Grant, and Ecole des Arts Plastiques et Visuels, Teaching Artist in Residence,Brussels, Belgium.Manhattan Graphics center has been her printmaking community for decades. She is represented by Conrad Graeber and website is phyllistrout.com
