Students will have a glimpse into history and evolution of mosaic art and different mosaic techniques (glass, stone, smalti, ceramic, direct and indirect method, grouting and installation).They will learn to create designs tailored to mosaic making, and master glass mosaics tools and materials.Students will create their first simple design and complete a small trial coaster piece in order to get the feel for the material. In subsequent classes, students will work on their designs to create an 8x8 panel of glass mosaic artwork.

About the Instructor:
Viktoriya Basina (she/her) is a visual artist and muralist working in the medium of painting, mosaics, vitreous enamel, and glass. She received her MFA in Painting in 2009 from Moscow State Fine Arts Academy. Since then Viktoriya created and actively exhibited studio artwork and worked on different community-involved public art projects and private commissions.

In 2017 Viktoriya made a move to Brooklyn where she continued creating studio and public art as well as large scale artwork and scenery for television and film industry.

Viktoriya enjoys sharing her love for painting and mosaics with the public through educational workshops or by leading community-involved public art projects.

Viktoriya's artwork can be found in private and municipal collections in Europe, Canada, USA, Central, and South America. Her public artwork can be seen in Russia, Mexico, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx
