The Master Print project began in 1993 with a modest collaborative project between the New York artist Gregory Amenoff and Master Printer and Professor Tomas Vu Daniel. For the past 30 years, under the guidance of printmaking professors Nona Hershey and Fred Liang, the Master Print Series has evolved and expanded into an annual event that brings together renowned contemporary artists in collaboration with MassArt printmaking students. This program gives students an opportunity to observe professional artists at work and to actively participate in the complex procedure of transforming ideas into quality prints. The artists are in residence during the collaboration and the myriad activities of strategy, matrix preparation, proofing, editioning and curating are a team effort. The finished works produced are divided equally between the artist and the school. Prints sold from MassArtβs archives cover the production expenses and are an essential and major component of funds donated towards student merit awards in the Fine Arts 2D Department. Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MassArt) is the nation's oldest and only independent public college of art and design.
At the 2026 Brooklyn Fine Art Print Fair, the MassArt Master Print Series is partnering with Caira Art Editions, based in Cambridge, MA. Launched by Lucy Rosenburgh in April 2025, Caira Art Editions publishes prints in all media with a growing roster of Boston-area artists and printers. Caira recognizes the dynamic printmaking landscape already present in Boston and seeks to bring it to a national platform.Β Β Β
