Description

Explore the figure in all its forms- human, hybrid, abstract, and imagined, in this 8 week ceramic handbuilding class designed for artists looking to deepen their clay‑building skills. Using techniques such as coiling, pinching, accretion, carving, and experimental approaches, participants will create fully spatial sculptural works that move beyond traditional figurative methods. The course emphasizes organic form-making, narrative potential, and expansive interpretations of the figure, supported by demonstrations, hands-on exercises, and discussions of historical and contemporary ceramic practices. This course is great for makers eager to push their sculptural vocabulary and explore fresh, imaginative ways of building and interpreting the figure in clay. This course builds on existing hand-building and sculpting experience; previous ceramic experience is required. The techniques are accessible to a range of skill levels.
