The Deluge Procession and Wild Souls After Party in the Forecourt
The Deluge, a parade and strange ritual to resist the imminent collapse of civilization led by the BoxCutter Collective. The wild animal procession will move from the Loft to the Lobby, and proceed from the Lobby to the Forecourt.

Cities, Creatures, and Other Survivors with Monica Banks, Jude Griebel, Eric Fischl, and Eric Shiner

What happens when artists imagine the world through the eyes of animals? Join featured the Ark artists Monica Banks and Jude Griebel, and President of Powerhouse Arts and Co-Curator of the Ark, Eric Shiner, for a conversation on the creatures that populate their work and the questions they raise about ecology, imagination, community, and survival. From monumental installations and hybrid beings to allegorical sculptures assembled from the materials of contemporary life, their work invites us to reconsider our relationship to the living world, and the many forms of resilience that emerge when species, stories, and environments collide.
Myth of Deluge: Flood Resilience, Public Voice, and Activating the Neighborhood with Andrea Parker, Em Ruby, Samuel Robinson, and Cassondra Warney

NYC is now subtropical. As cloudbursts intensify, the decisions about how to build and fund flood resilience are too consequential to make without the communities most affected. Panelists explore democracy tools we can use to strengthen social cohesion, including the citizen assembly model.
Workshop #1: Wild Animals of the Urban Jungle with Boxcutter Collective
With the support of Boxcutter Collective, attendees will create one-of-a-kind puppets based on animals in the Ark exhibition using cardboard, and repurposed materials! Build a puppet and then process in the Deluge parade where we will sail together to a new perspective.
Workshop #2: Rhythms of the Urban Jungle with Master Teaching Artist Joy Suarez and Musician Louie Miranda
Inspired by the sounds of our natural NYC environment and the calls of animals in the Ark exhibition, Joy and Louie bring their passion for sustainable art and their love for animals to this workshop creating organic sounds found in the world around us. Using found objects and upcycled materials from Materials for the Arts attendees are invited to create guiros, rain sticks, shakers, bells and other instruments to contribute to the herd.
Workshop #3: Floating Communities: An Architectural Workshop with Master Teaching Artist Yung Oh Le Page and Multidisciplinary Artist Zofia Kostyrko
By envisioning and constructing miniature, buoyant cities, this workshop serves as a site for ecological imagination—a space to explore how artmaking and storytelling can reshape our environmental consciousness.
Mobile Print Power: Join us for a day of participatory printmaking exploring our relationship with the land and each other. From 12–3:30pm, we'll gather reflections through question booklets. Then from 3:30–5pm, guided by prompts from those conversations, we'll sketch and shape a collaborative design together, with MPP members facilitating throughout. The result will be a collaborative print made by the participants that you can take home!
Brooklyn Bird Club: The Brooklyn Bird Club was founded in 1909 by Dr. Edward Vietor, a Brooklyn native, who gathered a few friends to enjoy the new sport of birdwatching. Over 100 years later, we have nearly 400 active members ranging from world class experts to brand new birders still trying to figure out how to operate their binoculars and choose the right field guide – all are welcome.
Earthlings NYC: Earthlings NYC creates programming to nourish citizen science and ecology-related education in our communities. We are a 501(c)3 initiative affiliated with Seeds To Soil and Prime Produce, based out of the cooperatively-run Guild for Good guildhall at 424 West 54th St in Hell’s Kitchen. We provide opportunities for learners of all ages to interact with creatures they may not otherwise encounter living in New York City. Whether it’s a tiny little beetle grub or a hefty tortoise, there is always something living organisms can teach us about the world and about ourselves!
The Hood Hikers: The Hood Hikers is more than a hiking group, it's a movement centered on wellness, adventure, and belonging. Brooklyn Surf Club: Brooklyn Surf Club was born from a simple idea: to bring the joy and confidence of surfing to young people in New York City who might never otherwise have the opportunity.
350Brooklyn: 350Brooklyn is a volunteer-driven group that mobilizes people to take effective local action to address the climate crisis. We are committed to pursuing solutions that both reduce climate pollution and ensure that low-income New Yorkers and environmental justice communities participate fully in the benefits the shift to renewable energy will bring.
Gowanus Canal Conservancy: Gowanus Canal Conservancy is dedicated to facilitating the development of a resilient, vibrant, open space network centered on the Gowanus Canal through activating and empowering community stewardship of the Gowanus Watershed.
The Climate Museum: The first of its kind in the United States, The Climate Museum’s mission is to inspire action on the climate crisis with programming across the arts and sciences that deepens understanding, builds connections, and advances just solutions. The Museum’s free, accessible exhibitions, art installations, online events, youth programs, and more have broadened the climate movement, introducing an interdisciplinary approach to climate with an emphasis on community, justice, equity, and inclusion.

Attendees will then be invited back to The Loft for a celebration of party animals, wild souls, and treehuggers, transforming reflection into collective action and revelry with cumbia and psychedelic rhythms from Milagro Verde and DJ Sonido Chichadelico.
The Boxcutter Collective is a Brooklyn-based political puppet theater company founded in 2016 by alumni of the renowned Bread and Puppet Theater. Known for their irreverent, anti-capitalist, and absurdist performances, they combine puppetry, live music, and cantastoria (sung storytelling) to tackle pressing modern issues.
Milagro Verde is a Peruvian chicha/cumbia band born out of the heart of Bushwick, NY. Milagro Verde is bringing back the original psychedelic cumbia sound, which was born in the 1970’s in their home country of Peru. The band pays tribute to their favorite bands who inspired them to perform this type of music. Milagro Verde is doing their part to curate this form of music known as Chicha (also known as Peruvian Cumbia or Cumbia Amazońica), playing gigs throughout New York City and beyond, and keeping the culture alive for many generations to come.
DJ Sonido Chichadelico is a Peruvian DJ and promoter based in Bushwick who has been working within the psychedelic side of Peruvian cumbia and chicha for over a decade. An avid record collector, his collection includes cumbia classics and rarities from South America as well as some Nuyorican guaguanco and other Latin gems.

Gold Leaf
Gilding for printmakers is a custom designed intensive weekend workshop for experienced printmakers who want to use genuine gold and silver leaf in the printing process. The class will focus on two phases: pre-printing and post printing. We will use genuine leaf, metal leaf mica, and metallic powders.
Ripple & Rip: Marbling & Collage with Nazli Efe
In two sessions, experiment with the traditional art of marbling and then create expressive collages using the marbled designs.

Intro to Intaglio
Intaglio techniques include a number of rich and varied processes that lend themselves to traditional and contemporary images. This course will focus on traditional methods of working copper plates. The class will cover etching, drypoint, aquatint, use of soft and hard grounds, and the combination of techniques on a single plate.

Copperplate Photogravure
Copperplate Photogravure with Digital Positives Photogravure yields a true continuous tone photograph etched into a copperplate. This technique has origins in early photography of the 19th Century. It remains one of the most beautiful forms of black and white photo reproduction.
