project overview
Stack Light is a modular system made up of interlocking ceramic components. Each component is slip-cast for precision and consistency, then spray-glazed in a range of finishes, allowing for a high degree of customer personalization in both height and color.
Powerhouse Arts received the 3D-printed prototype, from which Brian Ferreira made a mold and cast the necessary quantity of forms. The team then cleaned the pieces and bisque-fired them, preparing them for Scott to glaze fire.
The design’s clean, cylindrical forms stack vertically and shift composition with every configuration. Simple in structure but rich in variation, Stack Light balances utility with expressive potential, making it equally suited to minimalist interiors and bold, contemporary spaces.
Inspired by the linear simplicity of some of the great modernist floor lights, Stack Light pays quiet homage to icons like Carlo Scarpa’s Museo Castelvecchio fixtures and Ettore Sottsass’ Callimaco lamp. Stack Light is both a functional object and a modular system that invites users to compose their own visual sequence through form, color, and proportion.

Scott Newlin is a Brooklyn-based designer and ceramicist whose practice, Scott Newlin Design Studio, blends industrial design with a deep respect for craft. His work is grounded in functionality and elevated by a refined sense of play, creating distinctive objects that balance precision engineering with handmade warmth.
With over two decades of experience, Scott has led design for globally recognized brands like Harry’s and Herman Miller, while also developing his own limited-edition collections that explore material, form, and scale. From mass-produced products to one-of-a-kind pieces, his approach is thoughtful and flexible—bringing modern aesthetics and broad appeal to everything he creates.
