project overview

Artist James Little has created four benefit prints to support the Art Student League of New York’s mission to make fine art education accessible to all. The prints were launched in time to celebrate the League’s 2024 Gala, where Little, an instructor at the League, was honored alongside League alumna Louise Nevelson (in memoriam), and patrons Robin Lechter Frank and Dr. Ronald Frank.

Printed at Powerhouse Arts by Zaire Anderson and Thomas Zhuang, the four benefit prints are based on original artworks selected from the depth and breadth of Little’s career. They include a never-before-seen gouache on paper from the 1980s and a recent homage to the legendary singer and actress Eartha Kitt. Each print is in an edition of 50. All proceeds benefit the mission of the Art Students League of New York.

artist biography

The Art Students League of New York was founded in 1875 by a group of art students who hoped to escape the Academy by founding a member-run art school designed for and run by independent artists. For nearly 150 years, the Art Students League has been a haven for countless artists, who use the freedom it affords them to explore diverse artistic practices, methodologies, and mediums while developing a mastery of traditional technique.

An antidote to conservative academic traditions, the Art Students League is one of the most historically significant and influential art schools in the world, and their alumni have helped to define America’s prominence on the international art scene. From pioneering visionaries to contemporary masters, the community of artists who have studied at the League is a testament to the transformative power of their unique atelier-style system.

At the Art Students League of New York, students are empowered to design their own curriculum, learn at their own pace, and choose from an unmatched selection of classes in painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and more. There are no entrance requirements or examinations, and no previous art experience is needed to begin learning from their renowned instructors.
