May We Meet in the Silence of Our Souls - Book Launch and Q&A with Vuslat and Eric Shiner

The Loft

Join us for the book launch of May We Meet In The Silence Of Our Souls, a new artist monograph by Vuslat, published by Distanz, centered on the concept of Emanet—a layered notion of trust, care, guardianship, and entrusted memory knowledge. Vuslat will be in conversation with Eric Shiner, President of Powerhouse Arts, for an evening exploring the ideas and processes behind the publication. Together, they will reflect on the evolving framework of Emanet and its broader resonance across contemporary art, ethics, and systems of care.

Through a dialogue between three exhibitions developed around this concept, the publication reflects on how we hold, pass forward, and remain responsible for what is given to us. Bringing together image, text, and material thinking, it invites the reader into a contemplative space where care, responsibility, and connection are held in quiet balance.

The conversation will be an opportunity to meet the artist.

Vuslat is a multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and installation. Her practice centers on the concept of Emanet; a framework through which she investigates trust, care, guardianship, memory, and collective consciousness. Drawing from mythological narratives, spiritual traditions, philosophical inquiry, and nature-culture entanglements, she develops a poetic yet conceptually meticulous visual language. Rooted in processes of remembering and transmission, her work reflects on forms of knowledge that are carried across generations and entrusted through time.
After nearly two decades of working privately, Vuslat presented her first solo exhibition, Silence, at Pi Artworks Gallery in 2022, curated by Chus Martínez. This was followed by her first institutional exhibition, Emanet, at Baksı Museum in 2023. In 2024, she held a solo exhibition at MSGSU Tophane-i Amire Five Domes Hall, curated by Ebru Yetişkin, and presented her second institutional exhibition at Troy Museum, curated by Paolo Colombo. In 2020, she founded Generous Listening, a global initiative exploring listening as an ethical and social practice. As of 2024, she is pursuing an MFA at Otis College of Art and Design. For the Spring 2026 term, she is a visiting scholar at Tufts University, where she teaches a course on the Generous Listening Framework.

Eric Shiner is the President of Powerhouse Arts, a Brooklyn nonprofit dedicated to supporting artists and creative expression. He has held leadership roles at Pioneer Works, White Cube New York, and Sotheby’s, and was the director of the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh (2010–2016). As a leading scholar on Warhol and Asian contemporary art, he has curated notable exhibitions internationally, including The Andy Warhol Museum’s Andy Warhol retrospective that traveled across Asia from 2012 to 2014. Notable exhibitions include Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei (2015–16), Deborah Kass: Before and Happily Ever After (2012), Armory Focus: USA at The Armory Show (2013), and Armory Platform (2017). Shiner has also served on the boards of Visual AIDS, The Romare Bearden Foundation, Art at a Time Like This, and BOMB Magazine.
